Booked

It's official! We'll be in North Carolina in 98 days. I'm more excited than Daniel, but only by a little bit.

I lied.

I am WAY more excited than he is! I haven't been home since January.  Plus my house is 5 minutes from the beach and Chick-fil-A (opposite directions though), 3 minutes from Firehouse and PT's, and 60 minutes from Myrtle Beach. As you can imagine, a lot of my time home will be spent eating and/or shopping.

We're also looking forward to Hannah and Joe's wedding and answering nosy people's questions about why we don't have kids yet.

I can get a good tan in the 4 days I'm there, right?

King of Medicine

Daniel has exams this week and I've got a lot on my plate at work. Maybe I thought this was so funny because I'm a little more stressed than usual...

Daniel
got my [test] scores back
me
okay
Daniel
i don't know how to break it to you gently
me
then don't
Daniel
maybe i shouldn't shoot for rad[iation] onc[ology] [his current obsession]
b/c instead i want to apply for the residency for king of medicine

I guess that's code for I totally rocked my exam!

Whatever that means

Another Gchat delight...

i was studying lung physiology and ran into an equation that didn't make intuitive sense
so i rederived it
like a boss

Apparently this is significant to a med student. Who knew?

What's In A Name?

My maiden name is Yankey. Growing up, I never had any trouble with people distinguishing between my first and last name. These days though, it's not uncommon for me to get e-mails like this...

or

I get it, my first and last name are two first names. But it's frustrating to see people make dumb mistakes like that, especially when my e-mail signature looks like this...

Hello! My name is in big bold letters! Unfortunately, I think this is something that I'm going to have to deal with for a long time. Hopefully our daughters marry guys with obvious last names!

On an unrelated note, Daniel's doctor suggested that he start taking a daily multivitamin to make sure he's getting the right nutrients. I've been taking a multivitamin for months, and we usually take them together at dinner (precious, I know). Daniel took his this morning because we're going out for dinner tonight, and a little while ago on Gchat (Gmail chat? You know what I mean) he asked: did i take my pill this morning?

I thought the wording was perfect. I'm pretty sure I asked the same thing a few times when I was on birth control!

Patience

For those following our fertility adventures, my first round of Clomid didn't work. We were super bummed for a little bit, but then realized that one round of 50mg of Clomid doesn't work for us. Maybe it'll be two or three rounds, maybe it'll be 100mg, but we're crossing off things that don't give us a BFP (big fat positive [pregnancy test], according to TTC [trying to conceive] message boards), and that's better than nothing. My doctor's giving us a few weeks off the meds to get more tests done, hopefully we can narrow down our options sooner rather than later.

I never thought this process would be so labor (haha, get it?) intensive. I'm finally starting to realize that this experience is an opportunity for me to learn patience, a virtue that I definitely lack at times. For example, I started college two weeks after high school graduation. My quotes of fame in my freshman dorm included gems like, "Are you rapidly boiling yet?!" I wanted to know what med schools Daniel was accepted to as soon as he finished his interview. I try to grow my hair out, but get frustrated and cut it short again and again. Life doesn't rapidly boil immediately or unlock clues to my husband's medical career right away, and that's a lesson that I struggle to remember.

But in an ambitious effort, we recently put down a deposit on a 3-bedroom apartment in a cul-de-sac full of LDS medical professionals and next to a park. If plenty of room to play and grow with little friends isn't enough of an enticement for a baby, I don't know what is!
